Research  Title    : A Study of the way of Life & Culture of the Mapi Minority
Group at Bandong, Suankhuen Sub-district, Muang district, Phrae Province

 

Researchers:  Assistant Professor Chaweewan  Suwannapha, Miss.Onanong  Woowong and Phrabideeka Udon  Uttaramethee, Dr.
 

                                                                ABSTRACT

 

        The purposes of this research were to study of the way of life and culture of Mapi minority group at Bandong Suankhuen in many factors. There were practice, material’s cultural background and believe in Buddhism.

 

        The populations and groups of exampling were used in this research. There were two groups of Bandong’s populations: 747 Bandong Mu 4 and 485 Bandong Mu 8.  The essential study has found that the people who has been given the data of the unity, way of life material’s culture and thinking and believing of theory village such as the abbot of Wat Bandong Neuw, the abbot of Thi, the abbot of Wat Nong Kham, the informer’s leaders, ex-teacher at Bandong and older’s people in the community.

 

        The analysis of data was focuses on group discussion in participatory observation and in dept interview and probe. 

 

Foundation of the research:

 

         1. The way of life of people at Bandong Suankhuen sub-district, Muang district, Phrae province, was the practices and co-operation with cousin by having the men for leader which is the old culture until now. These leaders are called ALAPU. There will be the leader as the same family. On the other hand, they used the temple for their children and making merit.

 

         2. Material’s culture such as dressing building and thing on chickens rooms were dish, plate, and other. The temple or holy places is for making merit. However, food and dugs do make them lost their own culture.

 

         3. They are believer’s culture tradition that showing on the other traditional such as marry, born, funeral, New Year and believe in fortune. They always love to make merit such as by giving food, worship the Barman. And they were Yee ping (Loi katong festival) and pray mantra.

 

         4. There are tradition’s cultures that believe in the Buddhism. They were many things in Buddhism as their life such as worship (BUCHA) means encourage or worship that one who has respects. They were grateful presents, grand family etc, grateful on things and they still respect to accordance group.
